Design a useful website from a clear brief

Create a one-page site plan that helps a specific visitor take one action.

Before you start

A chat assistant, a fictional business brief and three examples of layouts you want to analyze.

Why this lesson exists

The one-person-agency posts show that faster implementation makes judgment more important. Begin with the visitor’s questions before asking for a visual style.

Do the exercise

  1. Define the visitor and action

Write who the visitor is, what they need to know and what action should follow. “Book a consultation” is specific; “be impressed” is not a navigation plan.

  2. Inventory evidence

List verified services, contact details and images you have permission to use. Mark missing information. Do not fill empty sections with invented testimonials or metrics.

  3. Make a content-first outline

Ask for the page sections in the order the visitor needs them. Write button labels that explain the destination. Sketch the mobile reading order before adding decoration.

  4. Run a five-second test

Show the outline or preview to someone. Ask what the site offers, who it serves and what they would click next. Revise the confusing part before polishing animation.

A prompt to adapt

Replace the bracketed parts with your own practice details.

Plan a one-page website for [audience] to [action]. Verified facts: [facts]. Available assets: [assets]. Missing facts: [unknowns]. Produce the content order, plain navigation labels and mobile layout. Explain how each section answers a visitor question. Never invent testimonials or business claims.

What this looks like

A service page should let someone find service area, scope and contact quickly. A cinematic intro that hides the phone number can look polished while failing the task.

Check your result

Use evidence from your output. A confident explanation from the AI is not enough.

  • A visitor can explain the offer.
  • Each main button has a clear destination.
  • Every factual claim is supported.

If it isn’t working

If the output is a collection of generic cards, ask what question each card answers. Remove sections that do not help the visitor decide.
