OUTCOME
Choose the right workspace and complete a harmless first task.

YOU NEED
A ChatGPT account and a computer. Use the web for the first exercise; desktop installation and Codex are optional next steps.

1. Start in the browser
Open chatgpt.com and sign in. Use a chat for a small question or writing exercise. Paste the fictional note in the example below; do not start by connecting every account.

2. Try the desktop app if useful
Follow the official quickstart linked below for your operating system, install from its official download and sign in. Choose the project or folder deliberately; the selected files provide work context.

3. Choose the mode for the job
Use conversational chat to explore an idea. For a finished research or document task use the available work mode. For a codebase task select Codex and a disposable practice folder. Names and availability can vary by account; consult the current quickstart.

4. Give one bounded task
Ask Codex to create a simple HTML checklist using fictional items, explain changed files and open a local preview. Review what it changed before publishing or connecting external services.

PROMPT
In this empty practice folder, create a single HTML checklist with three fictional study tasks. No accounts, network requests or paid services. Explain the files, show a local preview, and help me test checking and unchecking items. Do not publish it.
